Welcome

The Chiswick Repair Cafe is a voluntary initiative to help reduce waste, share repair skills and strengthen the local community. We hope you will come along and visit us soon. In the meantime, our site has some useful information for visitors, but please drop us a line if you would like to get in touch.

How Does It Work?

How Does It Work?

How Does It Work?

People bring their broken or worn items to the Repair Cafe and our volunteer repairers help them to mend their things, teach repair skills, or give advice on what can be done. We regret that we do not take bookings in advance. None of our volunteers are paid, we are all volunteering our time for this good cause. Visitors pay for any necessary parts and are asked to make a donation to the Repair Cafe running costs. Any excess funds are donated to a variety of local and environmental charities each year, which are listed in our annual impact report.

Read the House Rules.

What is a Repair Café?

What happens at a Repair Cafe?

A repair cafe is a voluntary, non-commercial event, and not a repair shop. It is a neighbourhood meeting place, where people come to repair together, where knowledge is transferred and people teach and learn from one another. Repairs are made while the Repair Cafe is being held, in the presence of, and where possible with the cooperation of the owner of the broken item. Broken items are not handed in at the Repair Cafe and collected later.

What can be repaired?

These are the items we can generally repair:

  • Small electrical and electronic repairs
  • Carpentry repairs (e.g. gluing chairs)
  • Toy repairs
  • Computers & laptops (not mobile phones)
  • Knife & tool sharpening
  • Sewing repairs: mending /darning
  • Ceramics
  • Jewelry
  • Small bike repairs

Please see our FAQ page for the items we cannot repair.
